Classes & Events

All of the classes taught at Gaia Massage & Yoga, LLC are considered in the style of Hatha yoga. This is a general term for the physical aspects of yoga. Hatha yoga is a form of guided exercise, breathing and meditation that focuses on strengthening large and small muscle groups from the inside out. We work on relaxing and improving flexibility where there is tightness, and improving both posture and balance.

In the forest, the flora and fauna are full of variety. So too are our bodies and how they appear in yoga postures. Each of us looks different and unique. Although the poses may have visual appeal, we are motivated by developing the inner sensations of strength, ease and balance. Yoga can simply be physical exercise if this is your goal. It is an excellent path to wellness and rehabilitation. It can relieve the symptoms of stress, anxiety, insomnia and depression. Some find relief of long-held muscular holding or thinking patterns. A typical yoga class focuses mainly and the poses and the breath. Yoga can also be a path for spiritual grounding and awakening. Whatever your intention may be for starting or maintaining a yoga practice, you are welcomed here.

Sarah teaches principles from Alignment Yoga, which focus on grounding, softening the palate and a commitment to the exhale. Attention to structural alignment and creating a friendship with gravity are a couple of our goals. She loves the philosophical, contemplative and mystical aspects of yoga as well as mantra and meditation.
